This is the first of a little series I'm putting together called 'Kent Charity Shops'. Each edition will look at a different town in my local area, going through what charity shops there are, the kind of items you'll be able to find and any tips I have along the way.
The first instalment in this series is all about Strood. I have only included those in and around the high street as these are easily accessible to anyone wanting to visit the area. I will go through each of the four shops and end with some general advice! Let's get started...
Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research is a great first stop for you when visiting Strood. This is a discount store so all items are £5 and under! It is located inside the retail park and is massive! In my opinion your best bargins here are the skirts and shorts (all £2 each) and the DVD's/CD's (5 for £1). They also have a huge selection of dresses, I've picked up a few here in the past as they always have a lot in different sizes. They also have a fantastic homeware section with lots to choose from.
Demelza

Demelza is located on the high street and is one of their regular charity shops. It has a great range of clothes, particularly women's tops which all well arranged by size making it easy to browse. They also have a sale rail which is definitely worth a look and don't forget to check the cabinet by the till as they have some lovely jewellery bits sometimes.
Shelter

Shelter may be my favourite charity shop in Strood. Located on the high street, it is always full of fantastic bits. The clothes are always very diverse, there's definitely something for everyone. If you're looking for a bargain, they have a £1 rail in the middle of the shop which can be hit or miss depending on what they have. Make sure you look all over the shop as they have lots of shelves which can be hiding great bits.
Strood Community Centre

This is an independent store next to shelter. They raise money for the local community and have a massive shop. Their homeware section always has some fantastic stuff and they have lots of vinyl's. The clothes are divided, the ones at the front are individually priced and the rails at the back are all £2.50 each. I've found some great bargains on the rails at the back but be prepared to rummage.
Tips for Strood
You can combine your trip to Strood with a trip to Rochester too. Take a short walk over the bridge, it has a lot of charity shops and beautiful scenery.
You can park in Strood retail park for up to 4 hours for free. This is where the Cancer Research shop is located and is central to the other three.
